When Samsung introduced its impressive line of Galaxy phones, the consumer’s market developed a sudden craving for phones with bigger screens. Who wouldn’t right? A phone with a bigger and clearer screen looks more attractive compared to the conventional phones using smaller screens. Because of this, a question came to mind – did the release of samsung galaxy phones set the standards in mobile design a notch higher? Will other mobile phone developers follow suit and will release smartphone models with bigger screens? Truth of the matter is, when mobile phone developers see how the consumers market welcomed the galaxy phones, other mobile phone giants such as the likes of LG and HTC have also released their versions of smartphones toting a bigger and better LCD display.
While mobile phone manufacturers have been continually experimenting with different LCD sizes for their smartphones, just because people warmly embraced phones with bigger screens doesn’t mean they will create a new trend in mobile phone design. Truth is, bigger is not always the best. However, for some reason, people find smartphones featuring bigger screens interesting. And just recently, Samsung has again released a mobile phone that appears to be a cross between smartphones and tablets. The Samsung Galaxy Note is by far the biggest smartphone released in the market, boasting a captivating 5.3 inch AMOLED screen, which is a trademark amongst Samsung Galaxy phones.
The Samsung Galaxy Note is definitely a great-looking device – it is too small to be called considered a tablet PC but too big to be categorized as just any ordinary smartphone. For users with small hands, the device will surely look humongous. While the Note’s extra big AMOLED screen is considered as one of its best strengths, some also consider this as a drawback. Since it is quite big compared to other smartphone models, you’ll look silly when answering calls with your Galaxy Note. But although some people complain about its big size, they still continue to use it since it is highly functional and undoubtedly attractive.
What I think is that other smartphone manufacturers might be conceptualizing a new smartphone design that can compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note. However, since using smartphones with bigger screens has its own set of pros and cons, the number of big-screened smartphones that will be released will still be kept to a minimum. But as technology continues to advance, there is a high chance that dual-purpose devices that can work as a smartphone and a tablet at the same time will likely flood the market.
In conclusion, Samsung’s Galaxy phone models have surely set the bar higher in terms of LCD size and quality, therefore, if competing mobile phone manufacturers want to stay ahead of the game, then they should come up with new smartphone models that can compete head-on with Samsung Galaxy phones.

In the olden days, people have only imagined the things that they can now do with their cell phones—tapping the screen to execute a command, browse the Internet, search for products and services and even pay using their mobile devices. At present, Google takes pride in its latest app called “Google Wallet” that enables customers to do transactions even without actual cash.
Google Wallet allows buyers to pay for items they have bought in brick-and-mortar stores by simply tapping their phones to the vendor’s PayPass reader. The reader is a small box that transmits data to participating stores like Whole Foods, Macy’s Jamba Juice and McDonald’s. Google was able to get this app off the ground by partnering with MasterCard.
How to Set-up your Google Wallet
At present, the app works only on Sprint Nexus S 4G Phone that has a special NFC antenna and a chip called “secure element” by Google. The app is currently linked with Google Prepaid Cards and Citibank MasterCards but Google promises to expand its support on all major credit cards as soon as possible. You can use Google Wallet at selected stores that have PayPass readers at their cash registers. Google will already set up a PIN for you to access the app but you need to reenter it every 5 minutes.
Payment Options
Google has licensed NFC specs for discover, American Express and Visa but they still have not announced the partnership with these credit card companies until now.
Tap and Pay Locations
To know whether a store supports Google Wallet, check if there is a logo illustration showing a person holding a credit card up to a wireless signal and/or a MasterCard PayPass logo at the cash register. If you want to make sure that the store has one, use the PayPass Locator app to identify the nearest PayPass locations.
Buying Items
Check out your Google Wallet and NFC Phone with ease by holding the device up to the PayPass terminal once the total price of your items is displayed on the screen. The cell phone will vibrate and will signal that a transaction has transpired.
No Receipts
For now, Google Wallet does not offer a digital receipt. It can only give customers “Tap Events” in the History Option within the app.
The Bottomline
This app is an easy way to pay for the items you have bought when it is working. It can also make you look cool when used properly. However, there are still rooms for improvement since Google has only launched the Google Wallet not long ago.

It is true what they say that technological development is inevitable and should be embraced, just like the cloud computing technology which has been the buzz word for quite some time already. It is a relatively new technology based on the Web. Cloud computing is on its way to revolutionize the manner by which users interact with the Internet. What sets this apart from the old school web is the fact that it allows information to be held anywhere across the world through multiple servers that provide resources and tools to users. With this said, I firmly believe that cloud technology has a bright future ahead. When developed properly, this technology will surely be very useful for everyone.
For the ordinary web designer, here is what cloud technology has in store for you:
- Practical image editing - The de-facto multimedia software used worldwide by developers and designers is from Adobe. This company provides software that has very powerful image editing as well as vector graphics with amazingly innovative rendering engines and tools. But what if you can run software similar to Adobe Photoshop directly on your browser and have the cloud do all the computations? Now that is a great deal. Cloud technology can make that task possible.
- Processing and editing website updates - With the cloud technology, you can experience a revolutionized way of logging into your server editing your files anywhere you go in any part of the world is a good leap for the Internet. Since the mobile market is growing, you can nab the chance to use it and maximize the Web for your needs.
- Cloud computing is being developed further - The current leader when it comes to cloud computing is Google but developers are engaged in enhancing and improving the technology to make it more accessible, easier to use and more convenient to users.
- This technology will allow users to move spreadsheets and documents into the Clouds - Google has released the Google Docs, a revolutionary way of giving online users the access to an account that will hold their own folders in the Web with online presentations, documents and spreadsheets. Google Docs allows the files to be shared to anybody all around the world and to be accessed from any computer. Mobile users can also have access to the documents on their Android or iPhone devices.
Cloud computing is a very promising technological advancement that could benefit many online users in the coming days. It is getting more powerful and more useful; it will surely change the Internet landscape once improvements and additional services have been rolled out.
